My cat, Mandy LOVES this rope!! She's been using the scratching pole on a very regular basis now.Great rope....& no bad smell. Also, it's smoother & much less "frayed" than the original rope that came with my scratching pole. It smells good, actually...maybe because it's hemp sisal. It smells NATURAL. I believe the chemical smell reviews are from around 2019/2020...& I think they must have read the reviews & remedied the issue...as current reviews don't mention a bad smell.I JUST did my cat Mandy's scratching pole...& she saw something was different (the original rope was falling off & apart, etc.). She went at it so hard....she knocked it over.....so I'm going to put something weighty on it, so it wont fall over....a rock from outside will do the trick. For now I put my hammer & hex wrench set on it...it's not falling over now.She's due for a claw trimming tomorrow, that's part of the reason it's falling over occasionally; her claws are too pointy & sharp at the moment.I pulled as tight as I could, within reason...while wrapping the rope. The pole is 18" high & 3 1/2" diameter. I bought the 1/4" @ 66' length. I used almost ALL of the rope, with only around 7" to spare....came close to running out, but thankfully I didn't.Quality rope...& NO bad smell, like some people were complaining about on Amazon Reviews...but those were from 2019/2020. People are NOT saying anything about a bad smell, in the last 2 years or so. I guess the company read the negative reviews regarding a "chemical" smell. It actually smells good to me.I definitely recommend this rope! My cat Mandy loves it!!
